Aberystwyth Enduro (Nant Y Moch)

Reg's are available for the 5th round of the Ceredigion Enduro Championship

 ADMCC "Nant Y Moch" Enduro

CAIO Enduro 3rd October

Reg's are now available to download for the 2010 Caio enduro.

Caio 2010 reg's.

Following on from last year's thoroughly enjoyable clubman/sportsman level forest enduro, we can offer a course approx 3 miles longer than last year, taking the overall lap to some 23 miles. Many of last year's riders commented that the Caio was one of the best events they had done and they could have easily managed another lap....well, ever eager to please we'll be giving you just that weather permitting! The special test will be basically the same with the fabulous "flat-out" straight uphill from the start (good for de-coking your engine!), grass-track/MX style first half then into the woods we go for most of the second half. The going itself is suitable for sportsman level riders and up with no silly "stoppers".
Those of you thinking about travelling up the evening before might like to consider a visit to the local Briwnant Arms who are well known for a good selection of real ales. All within walking distance!

With a week of good weather prior to this year’s event DDBC was hoping that Brechfa would be a dry one for a change, but as the early risers arrived at the start area in the pouring rain it was quickly decided to run on the “B” schedule. But as the first riders headed off at the 10am start the rain eased off a bit. The lap this year was about 25miles in length with 2 checks; check one being the shortest with the times tight enough to test most in each class. Check 2 including the test and fuelling, it also finally included a piece of going that the club had been working on for the last 18month that linked two off-road sections into one long enjoyable flowing section of going. Most of check two is a very enjoyable flowing riding with the exception of the now infamous GasGas hill, not the steepest or the most technical of hills but it always catches a few out especially the special-car, sorry the sidecar class. With most of the solo entry riding up without too much bother it was like a seen from a war film when the sidecar class arrived with marshals diving for cover. Strangely the clubmen sidecar class got up the hill on the first lap with less drama than the sidecar expert class! After GG hill it was a short ride to the test, again run mostly as it did last year but with the wet wooded bit replaced with a longer more technical section in the trees and more of the field used after the MX section. Once the riders finished the test it was a 10min ride back to the start for re-fuelling. With the rain gone and the sun trying its best, most riders had removed their wet weather gear and were ready for lap two and proper action. As the sun was fast drying the lap most were still a bit unsure just how hard to push on grassy part the test with only a second between all but one of the champ class at the end of the firs test, Dylan Jones on his Yam 125 fastest with the narrowest of margins, an on-form Greg Evans then stamped his authority on the remaining two test and taking the overall win from Edward Jones by 16 seconds. Solo expert winner was Robert Reese with David Lloyd Jones runner-up still recovering from a recent appendix op. Adrian Deeley won the clubman class with two very impressive test times, Paul Davies has now established himself as the man to beat at DDBC events in the Vet’s A class wining by a margin of just 4 seconds over 3 test, ex Welsh ISDE team rider Neil Williams won the Vet’s B with a time that was the best part of 2min ahead of his closest rival. The pairing of Williams and McPhee won the championship Sidecar class from local duo Davies and George who were on the pace in first test but lost a lot of time on the second after getting beached on a tree stump. Powell and Curnow won the sidecar clubman class from Wilkinson and Wilkinson but the third place pairing of Giles and Giles were the only ones to go clean on time in class. Dave Muller won the sportsman class by being the only clean on time. Feedback from the riders again this year was very positive with the event being very rideable and yet challenging enough to test all levels. DDBC club rider Tom Williams was glad to finish his first event in the expert class even if he was trying to sell green backrounds to anyone that would have them at the burger van. Most improved rider award had to go to sportsman rider Jaime Stiles, he made it up GasGas hill on his hands and knees looking like he was trying to suck moisture from the moss in 2009 but this year he rode up feet up on the peg’s making some of the marshals think he was the first of the championship class on their second lap.
Thanks also needs to go to all that helped make the event a success and to St Johns, DIRT TRAX timing, LAS Recycling Limited, Melingoed Ltd and Kangaloos for their continuing support.
On a negative note there has been an increase in reported illegal riding in the Brechfa Forest since the event and with the possibility of the club being allowed to use the venue again next year this selfish act is now directly threatening that event. If any one knows who these riders are please contact the club or tell them to get out and stay out to safeguard the future of our sport.

'Dyfed Dirt Bike Club' and 'Aberystwyth and District Motorcycle Club' jointly organised the Ceredigion Enduro Championship Awards evening. Guest speaker for the evening was Welsh, Paris to Dakar Rally legend Craig Bounds. DDBC also used the evening to presented a cheque for £700 to the Air Ambulance, Chris Botting and Marie George of the Forestry Commission kindly accepted the cheque on behalf of the Air Ambulance. Cheques for £250 were also donated to Cil-y-Cwm and Caio playing fields. Much of the money raised was from the recent Caio Enduro and by donating the money to charity it gave DDBC the opportunity to thank the Davies family of Cilgawod farm,Mr Doug Davies of Maescadog farm and Eirwyn and Phil George for their assistance and support in making the Caio enduro a succsessful event. Craig then entertained us with a talk about his Dakar high’s and low’s experiences with his unique outlook on life, he was assisted by Tamsin Jones another of the elite Dakar finishers. DDBC at the President's Shield Competition

Photo courtesy of Ian RamsbottomAfter the constant rain of the last few weeks, there were a lot of happy, if not a little cold faces turning up to Penbrey race circuit on the 13th of December for the annual President shield team trials competition. Having conscripted a couple of riders DDBC was able to enter 2 teams of 4 riders into this years event and being an enduro club, any chance of silverware against 3 trials only clubs would have been a bit ambitious but we would have a go. One team would ride the hard course and the other the easy course, the best 2 from each team would then be put forward for the final result. With a 11am start time DDBC's trials elite decided to meet up early especially as some had yet to see their bikes and to make sure everyone was happy with the format. The riders tackling the hard course were Dylan Hughes, Jon Stobbs, Gareth Davies and Paul (Elvis) Davies, easy course team was Anthony (pink bag) Griffith, Tom Williams, Owain Peckover and Anghard Eynon. With an entry of over 60 riders, Bryan Puckett decided to split the entry up at the start. Neath and Dulais Valley would start at section 5 and DDBC and their neighbour club Vale of Towy starting at section 1

Caio Enduro - Report

The Caio enduro was the final event in what has been a busy season for DDBC. With the start at Alun Davies family farm, this gave the club a hard standing paddock area and direct access into the forest from the start. Caio forest isn’t the biggest forest around but what it lacks in size it certainly makes up for in quality of track, with some fantastic single track riding available. The club had also been able to negotiate the use of farm land for access to the Pen Lan forest to increase the lap length and a field for the special test. Originally the club was concerned with low rider numbers and were at one point considering cancelling the event. So when the final starting list topped 80 riders it came as a pleasant surprise to all! At 10am the first riders set off towards check 1, a short check with plenty of time but with enough technical riding to warm the riders up for check 2. Check 2 was planned as the tightest of the day but it soon became obvious that most would easily go clean on time. Most of the experts and vet’s A had lot’s of fun seeing how fast they could do the check in after Calvin set a bench mark of 11min. Check 3 was a fun ride back to the test and finish area that included 2 long climbs where DDBC marshals had been dispatched to make sure everyone got up safely, but by all account they had a quiet day as most flew up without any drama’s.

The special test started with a long fast straight line blast across a field that led to some very slippery off-cambered turns with a few bog crossing thrown in. After some more grassy turns the test went into the forest for a blast along an old rutted track before returning to the field and some boggy turns(which claimed a few!) before the finish. Robert Reese was the fastest rider of the day and only 3 other expert riders were able to set a sub 4 minute test. Unluckiest rider of the day had to be Bret Gardner who had a fall on his sighting lap of the test that earned him a broken ankle and trip in the air ambulance. Paul Davies won the Vet’s from consistent top finisher Calvin Williams, new comer Edward Gwyther won the clubman class after a last minute change of class from sportsman. DDBC’s Chris(Snipe) Larkin beat rival John Hunt to second place and in doing so both are equal first in the final standing of the Ceredigion Championship. Mark Lonergan won the sportsman class with a test time that would have put him at the sharp end of the clubman class. Rider feedback at the end of the event was very positive with most having a very enjoyable ride.

DDBC would like to thank the Davies family for the use of the start area, the George family for their help, support and knowledge in preparing the lap. Also a big thank you to everyone that helped on the day.

A special mention must go to the Forestry Commission, St Johns and Dirt Trax for their continuing support in 2009,

Caio Enduro - Final Preparations

With less than a week to go till the Caio enduro DDBC members have been busy putting the final touches to the lap and special test. The lap will be about 20miles in length and will have 3 time checks per lap. The club is aware that the CAIO has received a number of first time enduro riders and thus we are happy to answer any questions they may have regarding an enduro format, if your not sure about something ask one of the marshals.

Caio Enduro

After a gap of 10 years the popular Caio Enduro is once again back on the Welsh Enduro calendar. This year it is being organised by Dyfed Dirt Bike Club for Sunday, October 4rth, 2009. Clerk of Course for the event is Dylan Davies ably assisted by Caio local Alun Davies. Alun and his gang of merry workers have been very busy over the last 12 months opening up both new and old tracks for this years event and have come up with what should be a cracker!!! The emphasis is most definitely on the Clubman/Sportsman rider and the track has being prepared for a possible round of the British Sidecar Championship in the future in mind. This obviously means that the event will be completely rideable whatever the weather - even in October.

A brand new cross-country special test is being used which includes a bit of everything - farm tracks, open mountain going and woodland. The lap mileage will be an enjoyable 22 miles so there is no need for an out fuel service crew - all the servicing can be done from the start area which is at Cilgewad farm, Caio. DDBC once again provide the popular A and B class for the Vets and a ladies class is also included for the Caio. The event will also form the last round of the 2009 Ceredigion Enduro Championship.

Alltymynydd Trial - Report

Not even the heavy rain just before the start or the hoards of midges could dampen the spirits of 21 riders and numerous observers( THANK YOU!) and spectators who braved the Llwyndrissi forestry for Wednesday evening's trial...a first for DDBC. Usually used to riding a lot faster, the slippery conditions seemed to favour club chairman Dylan Hughes who topped the clubman hard route with a score of 30...almost half that of second placed Nathan Morton from Bronant on 57! However just to show how the experts do it, Wayne Jones(riding on a no-award basis) used the evening as a practice ride and only dabbed the once on section 3!

Carmarthen's Malcolm Dunn managed a very respectable 7 on the clubman easy route, despite complaining of a dodgy shoulder. Close behind was 12 year old Owen Gawthorpe on 9, beating his dad Barry on 11. Another victorious son was Lewis Jenkins beating his dad Roy by some 19 marks.

Novice route was won by ADMCC's Chris Jones on 28 with Gareth Owen close behind with 32 marks lost, and the Aberaeron butcher Owain Peckover third with 39.

Veteran class was won by Bill Myers from Llandrindod Wells on a very tidy Beamish Suzuki with barely 3 marks lost, followed by VOT's Glyn Jones on 10. The veteran easy route was taken by local Mick Maskelyne on his BSA B40.

Brechfa Enduro - Race Report

With a week of damp weather and the rain showers on Saturday, the 2009 Brechfa was never going to be an easy event. The day started wet but thankfully the rain eased off before the 10am start for the riders.
